Women's Soccer Falls To Maine, 4-1

Orono, Maine - The University of Maine scored four goals, three in the second half, to defeat Stony Brook 4-1 in America East women's soccer action Sunday afternoon in Orono, Maine. The loss drops Stony Brook's record to 0-4-1 on the year, 0-1-1 in America East action.

The Black Bears opened the scoring at 12:00 when Annie Hamel scored her third goal of the season from Kim Walsh when she beat the keeper with a shot in front of the net. The duo teamed up again at the 73:48 mark with Walsh passed the ball to Hamel who lobbed a shot over Stony Brook keeper Lori Nelson to give Maine a 2-0 lead. Hamel's second goal sparked a three-goal outburts that saw the Black Bears score three times in a span of 14:31.

Maija Kaldro added her second of the season when she beat Nelson to the far post on a pass from Katie Hodge at the 85:39 mark before Maine rookie Linda Consolante scored off a pass from Hodge on an indirect kick at 88:19 to give Maine a 4-0 lead.

The Seawolves found the back of the net with just 14 seconds remaining when Lauren Canino scored off a rebound of a direct kick at 89:49.

Maine outshot Stony Brook 18-7. UMaine keeper Naomi Welsh made 4 saves in net for the Black Bears while Stony Brook keeper Nelson stopped six UMaine shots.

The Seawolves are back in action this Tuesday in a non-conference road matchup with Princeton. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m.
