Box Score

Hempstead, N.Y. - EJ Xikis made 11 saves and Stony Brook got goals from Chris Scarpati and Chris Megaloudis as the men's soccer team shut out Hofstra 2-0 on Sunday evening at Hofstra Soccer Stadium. The Seawolves, who have won two of the last three meetings between the two teams, improved to 4-1-0 on the season, while the Pride fell to 2-3-0.

Xikis (1-0-0) was outstanding in net, turning away all 11 shots on net to earn his first shutout and victory as a Seawolf.

SB got off to a quick start, scoring on its first shot of the match. Megaloudis crossed the ball from the right side up the middle to a charging Scarpati, who one-timed it inside the right post from about 12 yards out to give SB the 1-0 lead just 5:14 into the contest.

Hofstra controlled the play much of the rest of the first half, but the Seawolves were able to hold on to the lead behind the spectacular play of Xikis.

SB had several chances in the second half and finally came through with 1:28 remaining. Tamer Mohamed sent the Seawolves on a two-on-one break with a pass to Yahaya Musa on the left side. Musa drew Hofstra goalkeeper Matthias Gumbrecht out of the net, then passed the ball in front of the Hofstra defender to Megaloudis on the right, and he fired it from 20 yards out to give the Seawolves the insurance goal.

The Seawolves are back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Fairfield, Conn., to take on Sacred Heart beginning at 4:00 p.m.
