Box Score

Irvine, Calif. - USC exploded with a seven-run seventh inning to open up a 10-0 lead and down the Stony Brook baseball team at Day 2 of the OCYSF Hardball Classic at Anteater Ballpark on Saturday afternoon. The Seawolves bats were unable to break through against USC starter Brett Bannister, tallying just three hits, and falling to 5-7 this season with the loss. The victory improved USC's record to 12-6 this year and 2-0 at the OCYSF Hardball Classic.

The Trojans jumped out the board early, plating two unearned runs on a walk, two hits and a Seawolves error in the top of the first inning to stake Bannister to a 2-0 lead before taking the mound. Bannister would dominate the Brook all afternoon, allowing just three singles while striking out five for his first complete game of the year.

USC added a run in the fifth inning to take a 3-0 lead and loaded the bases in the top of the seventh to chase SB starter Kris Bakey from the game. Freshman Tom Koehler came in to relieve Bakey and allowed a sacrifice fly and a three-run home run to Lucas Duda to break the game open and give USC a commanding 7-0 lead. The Trojans added three more runs on four singles as the Seawolves used four pitchers in the inning and were left with a 10-0 deficit heading into the seventh inning stretch.

Bakey (1-1) suffered the loss for Stony Brook, allowing six runs (three earned) on 10 hits in six-plus innings of work. Larsen led the Seawolves at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a pair of singles. Will Brumfield singled for the third Seawolves hit of the afternoon.

Billy Hart and Blake Sharpe had three hits apiece to lead USC at the plate, while Duda drove in three runs as part of a 2-for-4 day.

The Seawolves are back in action tomorrow versus Nevada in the third and final day of the OCYSF Hardball Classic. First pitch is slated for 12 p.m. PT.
