Charleston, S.C. -
The Stony Brook baseball team dropped a 3-2 decision to the Citdadel for the second straight day on Saturday afternoon at Riley Park. The Seawolves fall to 1-4 this season while the Citadel improves to 7-3.
The Citadel jumped on top of the Seawolves in the bottom of the second as Chris Swauger singled, stole second and came around to score on a RBI double by Matt Matulia to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 advantage.
In the third, the Citadel added to its lead on an RBI double by Chris Ard to make it 2-0, but the Seawolves battled back with a run in the top of the fourth on an RBI triple by Nick Theoharis to cut the lead to 2-1 after four innings.
Swauger led off the bottom of the sixth inning with a solo home run off the foul pole in left to put the Citadel on top 3-1. The Seawolves pulled back within a run on an RBI double by designated hitter Stephen Didsbury, but that would be as close as they would get as Shannon Sprouse came on to close the game for the Citadel.
Theoharis and Tom Pennino led the Stony Brook offensive attack with two hits apiece. Kevin Fitzgerald suffered the loss, giving up seven hits, one walk while striking out nine in eight frames.
The Seawolves are back in action tomorrow at noon to close out their three-game series at the Citadel.
