Sept. 22, 2006

Box Score

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Michael Palacio became the all-time career assists leader at Stony Brook as the Stony Brook men's soccer team edged NJIT, 2-0, at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium on Friday night in the final non-conference game of the season. Stony Brook improves its record to 3-7 while NJIT slips to 1-7.

Off a three-on-two counter-attack, David Weisberger slipped the ball through two defenders, finding a streaking Oscar Leis. Leis calmly put the ball past the left side of Highlanders goalkeeper Josh Osit in the 11th minute to give the Seawolves a 1-0 lead. Weisberger assist was his first point of his career.

The Seawolves added on a goal in the 89th minute when Tamer Mohamed converted a header off a cross from Michael Palacio, giving the defending America East champions a commanding 2-0 lead. Palacio's assist was his third this season giving him 19 for his career, breaking Charlie Matos' previous mark of 18.

Goalkeeper Rich Skoblicki picked up the win for the Seawolves in his first start of the season. Skoblicki stopped three shots, none more important than a point-blank save off the foot of Joe Rene Valentin in the 58th minute.

The Seawolves travel to Vermont to play the Catamounts on September 27th in the America East opener for both teams. Kick-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
