Stony Brook head women's soccer coach Sue Ryan announced today the signing of seven student-athletes to play soccer for the Seawolves in the fall.
"We're extremely happy with the high caliber of this class both on and off the field," Ryan said. "They will add to the depth of next year's team and will certainly challenge for time right away. We feel that we've done a good job setting ourselves up for the future with our last two classes."
Alexis Lindo is a defender who arrives at Stony Brook from York, Pa. where she was an all-state selection and County Player of the Year last season as a defender at Dallastown Area High. A three-time all-county selection as well, Lindo was a member of the 2007 Region I Team and the EPYSA ODP Team. She will also be traveling to Russia this spring with her Region I squad. Lindo is one of the first girls from York County to make the regional team.
Dominique Adamo joins the Seawolves from Ramsey, N.J., where she was a two-time all-state selection and four-time all-league selection in four seasons at Ramsey High. Adamo attended national team training camp in 2006 and was a seven-time member of the New Jersey State ODP team and Region I team. She will travel with her Region I team to Brazil this spring.Adamo also plays club soccer for World Class Arsenal Premier who finished as the 2007 NJ State Cup Champions, 2007 Region I Champions & finished in 3rd place for the 2007 US National Youth Soccer Competition.
Alexa Woolley comes to Stony Brook after earning two varsity letters as a defender at Pleasantville High in Elmsford, N.Y. where she was a two-time all-league selection. Woolley also captained the Panthers as a senior when she earned a spot on the all-section team, tallying five goals and two assists.
Rachel Silverman earned five varsity letters at Blind Brook High, joining the team in eighth grade. A two-time all-league selection, Silverman also was picked for the all-section team in 2006. She also played for the Brooklyn Knights club team and was a two-time member of the Eastern New York North State ODP team.
Colleen McKenna is a local product from Manorville, N.Y. who played five seasons at Eastport South Manor High, where she was an all-state selection and league player of the year as a senior. A two-time captain at Eastport, McKenna also led her East Meadow Shooting Stars club team to the state title and a number seven regional ranking.
Karen Strat arrives at Stony Brook from Oakton, Va., playing three years of varsity soccer at Oakton High where she was four-time scholar athlete. Strat captained Oakton as a senior and was also a four-time all-district selection in indoor track. She also played for the 2007 state finalist VISTA Hotshots club team and also played for the Virginia state ODP team.
Ashley Morse joins the Seawolves from Bowie, Md. where she played four years of varsity soccer at Bowie High. Morse was a three-time all-county selection for the Bulldogs and an all-league selection in lacrosse. She was a member of the three-time state champion Bethesda Rapids club team as well as a six-time member of the Maryland state ODP team and the 2005 Region I ODP team. Morse was also a secretary for the National Honor Society in addition to being a member of the SGA and Model UN.
"We look to be a young and dynamic team in 2008," assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Steve Welham said. "With the best yet to come."
The Seawolves finished the season 8-5-5 and hosted their first ever America East tournament game, a 2-1 victory over Maine. Stony Brook also put together a scoreless streak of 863:33 that ended as the seventh longest streak in NCAA women's Division I history.
