Stony Brook, N.Y. - Sophomore designated hitter Nick Thode (Huntington Station, N.Y.) was named the SimplexGrinnell Stony Brook Athlete of the Week on Monday after helping the Seawolves to a split of a four-game series with Maine.

He hit .600 (9-for-15) in the four-game set against the Black Bears and went 3-for-5 with two RBI in Stony Brook's 17-7 victory on Saturday, which clinched the Seawolves spot in the 2009 America East tournament. Thode also collected three hits in the series finale against Maine and has now recorded a hit in 16 of the Seawolves last 17 games.

Thode is hitting a team-high .372, which currently ranks fourth in the America East. He also ranks second on the team in hits (61) and doubles (14) and is tied for the team lead with 18 multi-hit games.

The third-seeded Seawolves open up the 2009 America East tournament on Thursday at 4 p.m. against No. 2 Albany. The tournament is being hosted by Binghamton at nearby Union-Endicott High school.
