Syracuse, N.Y. - Stony Brook University's baseball team hit six home runs and used a six-run second on its way to a 10-4 win over the Le Moyne Dolphins in the first game of a non-conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Dick Rockwell Field. The Seawolves then scored two runs in their final at-bat to rally for an 8-7 victory in the second game. Following the doubleheader sweep, Stony Brook is now 10-12.

Freshman William Carmona (Hempstead, N.Y.) went 3-for-4 with two home runs and three RBI in the game one win. Senior Michael Barbot (Clermont, Fla.) picked up the win in the opening game as he allowed just one run on four hits in 7.1 innings of relief.

The Seawolves grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the first game as junior Chad Marshall (Paris, Ontario) homered with one out in the first. The Dolphins answered with three runs in the bottom of the first highlighted by home runs from Zach Wiley and Chris Edmondson.

But SBU used the long ball to break the game open in the second. Senior Robert Dyer (Selden, N.Y.) hit a grand slam in the inning and Carmona and senior Michael Stephen (Patchogue, N.Y.) hit back-to-back home runs.

Stony Brook tacked on a run in the fourth and then pushed its lead to 9-3 in the fifth as freshman Tanner Nivins (Kitchener, Ontario) led off the inning with a home run. The Seawolves scored their final run of the game in the eighth on a solo home run from Carmona.

Le Moyne jumped to the early lead in the second game, scoring three runs in the first. Edmondson and Matt Marra hit back-to-back home runs in the inning. SBU rallied for a 4-3 lead in the fourth on a grand slam off the bat of Stephan.

The Seawolves pushed their advantage to 6-3 in the fifth on a two-run home run from Nivins. The Dolphins took a 7-6 with four runs in the bottom of the inning highlighted by a three-run shot from Marra.

Stony Brook still trailed 7-6 entering the seventh and final inning and Nivins went down on strikes for the first out of the inning. Sophomore Pat Cantwell (West Islip, N.Y.) appeared to strike out for the second out but reached first on a wild pitch. Freshman Travis Jankowski (Lancaster, Pa.) pinch ran for Cantwell and moved to second on a single from junior Stephen Marino (Lake Grove, N.Y.).

Jankowski and Marino then executed a double steal, with Jankowski scoring on a Le Moyne throwing error to tie the game. Dyer then followed with a single to left that was mishandled, allowing Marino to come home with the go-ahead run.

Le Moyne loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the seventh. But Stony Brook senior reliever Chris Maier (Farmingdale, N.Y.) got Paul Speicher to line into a double play to end the game.

The teams will wrap up their four-game series on Sunday. First pitch for Sunday's doubleheader is set for 12 p.m.
