Sept. 12, 2010

Final Stats

New York, N.Y. - Stony Brook University women's soccer team dropped its final non-conference road game of the season on Sunday afternoon, falling to the Columbia Lions, 3-0, at Columbia Soccer Stadium. The Seawolves recorded 12 shots but were unable to overcome two first-half Columbia goals.

The Lions (4-1-0) jumped on top in the 19th minutes as Chelsea Ryan put one past Stony Brook freshman goalkeeper Chelsea Morales (Temecula, Calif.) off a Kelly Hostetler corner kick. It was the first goal of the season for Ryan.

Columbia scored off another Hostetler corner just four minutes before halftime as Keri Nobil got free right in front of Morales and flicked it past her to make it 2-0. Each team recorded seven shots in the opening 45 minutes while the Lions held a 2-1 advantage in corner kicks.

The Seawolves held Columbia off the scoreboard over the first 30 minutes of the second half before Marissa Schultz added an insurance goal for the Lions. Lainey Prioleau created the opportunity, sending a though ball to Colleen Rizzo.

Rizzo played the ball to Schultz on the right side and she then put it inside the far post. Lillian Klein made four saves for the Lions as she recorded her fourth straight shutout.

The Seawolves return to action on Thursday, hosting Fairfield at LaValle Stadium. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
