Women's Soccer Continues Conference Play at Albany on Thursday

Sept. 29, 2010

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Coming off a 1-1 tie with Hartford in its America East opener on Sunday, the Stony Brook University women's soccer team will continue conference play at Albany on Thursday. Originally scheduled to kick off at 3 p.m., the game will now begin at 12 p.m. because of anticipated inclement weather later in the day. Fans can follow the game with Live Stats at www.goseawolves.org.

Last Time Out
Sophomore Sa'sha Kershaw (Baltimore, Md.) scored the game-tying goal in the 56th minute to lead Stony Brook to a 1-1 double-overtime tie with the Hartford Hawks in the America East opener for both teams on Sunday afternoon at LaValle Stadium.

Hartford took a 1-0 lead just 4:18 after halftime as Amelia Pereira received the ball in the middle of the 18-yard box and put it into the upper left corner of the net. But the Seawolves struck back minutes later as junior Colleen McKenna (Manorville, N.Y.) sent a ball into the penalty area that Kershaw tipped just past Hartford goalkeeper Lauren Brodeur.

All-Time Series
Stony Brook leads the all-time series, 12-3, after splitting two meetings with the Great Danes last season. Albany defeated the Seawolves, 2-0, during the 2009 regular season behind first half goals from Chrissy Klepper and Ashley Tirabassi. The teams then met again in the America East quarterfinals, with the Seawolves earning a 2-0 victory with the help of a goal from Kershaw.

Scouting Albany Picked to finish fourth in the America East preseason coaches poll, Albany is 5-5-0 following a 2-0 victory over Bryant on last Wednesday. It matches their best 10-game start in their 10-year Division I history. This will be the first America East game for the Great Danes, who had a bye on the opening weekend of conference play. Sophomore Shayla Bergeron ranks fourth in the league with five goals.
