Women's soccer travels to Binghamton on Sunday

Oct. 2, 2011

Vestal, N.Y. - Fresh off a 4-1 victory over UMBC, the Stony Brook women's soccer team will look for its second conference win of the season on Sunday against Binghamton at 1 p.m.

The Seawolves (3-8-0, 1-1-0 America East) enter the match riding high after an offensive explosion on Thursday against the Retrievers. Freshman Regan Bosnyak (Newington, Conn.) contributed her first two collegiate goals, while fellow freshman Eliza Mendoza (Fontana, Calif.) chipped in her first as a Seawolf as well. Stony Brook's other tally came courtesy of an own goal, which proved to be the deciding marker late in the first half.

Binghamton enters with a 4-6-0 overall mark and a 1-1-0 America East record. The Bearcats won 3-0 at Maine to open conference play, but fell on Thursday against Hartford, 1-0. All four of Binghamton's wins have been shutouts, but on the flip side, Binghamton has been shutout in each of its six defeats. Taylor Kucharski leads the Bearcats with a goal and two assists on the offensive front. Carrie Martin has started nine games in goal and has posted impressive numbers with a 0.54 GAA and a .900 save percentage.

The Seawolves got the best of Binghamton last season in a 2-1 win at LaValle Stadium. Sa'sha Kershaw (Baltimore, Md.) and Larissa Nysch (Dresher, Pa.) accounted for the goals. Stony Brook is 7-3-1 all-time against the Bearcats and has won four straight meetings.
