West Hartford, Conn. - The Stony Brook women's soccer team will look to deal Hartford its first loss of the season on Thursday in a 6 p.m. America East matchup at Alumni Stadium.
Stony Brook (3-8-1, 1-1-1 America East) enters the match on a two-game unbeaten streak after knocking off UMBC last Thursday and tying Binghamton on Sunday. Freshman Regan Bosnyak (Newington, Conn.) stole the spotlight against the Retrievers, netting her first two collegiate goals in a 4-1 win. On Sunday against the Bearcats, the Seawolves defense pitched its first clean-sheet of the year as the teams played to a scoreless draw. Sophomore Chelsea Morales (Temecula, Calif.) stopped nine shots on Sunday and leads the America East with 5.90 saves per game.
Stony Brook's opponent on Thursday, Hartford has not lost in 12 matches this season, posting a 10-0-2 record (3-0-0 America East). Hartford has excelled at both ends of the field as it averages 1.83 goals per game and only 0.25 goals against. Junior Amelia Pereira, who also plays for the Portuguese National Team, leads the America East with six goals and five assists (17 points) in 11 games played. Senior Mary Beth Hamilton (13 points) and junior Caitlin Alves (12 points) have also been productive offensively thus far. Goalkeeper Erin Quinlan has started every game in net and boasts a 0.17 GAA and leads the conference with nine shutouts.
The Hawks have won eight of 13 all-time matchups against Stony Brook. The teams played to a 1-1 draw at LaValle Stadium last year as Sa'sha Kershaw scored the game-tying goal in the 56th minute after Pereira had given Hartford the lead just five minutes earlier.
