Stony Brook, N.Y. - The Stony Brook women's soccer team opens the home portion of its America East schedule on Thursday against UMBC at 7 p.m. The girls soccer clinic that was scheduled for today has been cancelled due to pending inclement weather. No make-up date for the clinic has been announced.

Stony Brook (2-8-0, 0-1-0 America East) is coming off a tough loss at Vermont on Sunday. The Seawolves had numerous opportunities to go in front in the first half, but could not break through as the Catamounts held on for a 1-0 victory in Burlington. Sophomore Chelsea Morales (Temecula, Calif.) played a strong game in net, making eight saves, including three huge stops in the final minutes to keep Stony Brook in the match.

UMBC also dropped its America East opener last weekend, falling to Hartford, 3-0, in Baltimore, Md. The Retrievers are still looking for their first win of the 2011 season after posting an 0-9-1 record through their first 10 games. Amy Savage and Rachel McKee lead the Retrievers with two goals apiece on the offensive front. In goal, Lauren Kadet has started eight games and owns a 1.98 GAA with one shutout.

Historically, the Seawolves have faired well against UMBC with seven wins in 10 all-time games (7-3-0). One of those wins came last year, when the Seawolves dispatched the Retrievers, 2-0, on goals by Colleen McKenna and Dominique Adamo. Overall, Stony Brook has not lost a match against UMBC since the 2005 season.
