Stony Brook, N.Y. - The Stony Brook women's soccer team will wrap up a three-game homestand on Friday when they host Long Island University at 7 p.m.
The Seawolves (1-4-0) are coming off a 2-1 loss to Sacred Heart last Sunday. After the Pioneers went ahead 1-0 after the break, junior Taryn Schoenbeck (Newark, Del.) equalized with her first goal of the season in the 81st minute. Sacred Heart responded, however, and went back ahead six minutes later to seal the victory. Schoenbeck and fellow junior Sa'sha Kershaw (Baltimore, Md.) are tied for the team lead with three points apiece.
Long Island University enters Friday's match with a 1-3-0 record after starting the season on the West Coast. The Blackbirds lost 3-1 to Cal State Fullerton in the season-opener, before dropping a pair of contests at Pepperdine and at No. 21 Loyola Marymount. LIU then returned home and won its first game of the year against Harvard, a 2-1 decision on Sept. 2. Ariana Calderon, Ruby Leon and Jen Spicer each have two points so far for the Blackbirds.
The teams have met three times in the past with LIU prevailing in each game. The most recent meeting between Stony Brook and LIU came in 2008 when the Blackbirds edged the Seawolves 1-0 at LaValle Stadium.
