NSCAA Northeast Regional Poll
Kansas City, Kan. - Fresh off a pair of victories over Army and Yale over the weekend, the Stony Brook women's soccer team has been ranked ninth in the latest NSCAA Northeast Regional Poll. Stony Brook, 4-1-1 overall, will look to extend its five-game unbeaten streak on Friday at Rutgers.
The Scarlet Knights (5-1-0) are ranked second in this week's regional poll behind unbeaten Georgetown (5-0-0). Eight of the ten slots are occupied by BIG EAST teams, while Stony Brook and fellow America East foe Boston University (No. 6) comprise the remaining two slots. The Seawolves have already beaten one BIG EAST opponent this season, St. John's, by a 3-0 margin on Aug. 26.
At 4-1-1, Stony Brook is off to its best start since 2006 when the team opened the season with the same record. The Seawolves have already matched their win total from last year and have also equalled their goal output (12) from a year ago in only six games. With four victories this year, head coach Sue Ryan is just one shy of 200 for her career at Stony Brook.
Following Friday's matchup at Rutgers (7 p.m.), the Seawolves will open a three-game homestand against Manhattan (9/14), Lehigh (9/16) and Loyola Md. (9/21).
