Orono, Maine - Having already clinched an America East playoff berth, the Stony Brook women's soccer team (10-5-1, 5-2-0 America East) will look to improve its postseason position on Sunday at Maine at 1 p.m. The Seawolves can win the regular season title with a victory and a UMBC loss or draw vs. UNH.
Playoff Picture
Entering the final matchday of the 2013 regular season, the Seawolves can finish as high as No. 1 and as low as No. 4 in the standings. Stony Brook has clinched at least one home playoff game, but can lock up home field advantage throughout the postseason with a victory on Sunday and a little help from New Hampshire.
Last Time Out
The Seawolves rallied to defeat UNH on Thursday, scoring three goals in a 25-minute span in the second half to down the Wildcats, 3-1. Freshman Leah Yurko (Cumberland, Md.) scored the game-tying goal in the 58th minute and then added a second goal in the 83rd minute, while senior Larissa Nysch (Dresher, Pa.) scored her conference-leading 10th goal of the year in the 79th minute.
Scouting Maine
The Black Bears (8-4-4, 5-1-1 America East) have a lot to play for on Sunday as well. Maine can clinch the top spot in the America East playoffs in two scenarios: a win over Stony Brook or a draw vs. the Seawolves and a UMBC loss/draw vs. UNH. Stony Brook ended Maine's season last year in the America East Semifinals, so the Black Bears will be highly motivated to win at Stony Brook's expense on Sunday. Eve L'Abbe and Charlene Achille pace the team with nine points each, while keeper Lauren Swant owns an impressive 0.82 GAA in net.
Scoring for Fun
Senior forward Larissa Nysch has filled up the nets in her fourth and final season as a Seawolf. The Dresher, Pa. native leads the conference with 10 goals and 24 points and is the first Stony Brook player to net 10 goals in a season since Kerri McCabe in 2000. For her career, Nysch ranks sixth all-time at Stony Brook with 53 points.
