Stella Norman named America East Player of the Week

Aug 26, 2013

Cambridge, Mass. - Sophomore defender Stella Norman (Lakewood, Colo.) of the Stony Brook women’s soccer team was named the America East Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday. Norman scored on a free kick in a 2-2 draw at Seton Hall on Friday before recording a career-high three assists in a 6-0 win over Fairleigh Dickinson on Sunday.

Norman’s first assist was a through-ball down the middle of the field to senior Larissa Nysch (Dresher, Pa.) in the 53rd minute to help give the Seawolves the 1-0 lead. Norman followed with two more assists, both coming on header goals by sophomore Emily Murrer (Aptos, Calif.).

Norman’s three assists against FDU were part of a six-goal second half for the Seawolves, which tied a record for most goals in a half, set back in 1993 against Iona. Also, she was the first Seawolves women's soccer player to post three assists in a game since the program joined America East in 2001.

The Seawolves (1-0-1) return to action Friday vs. Fairfield at 5 p.m at LaValle Stadium.
