Women's soccer welcomes Fairfield, NJIT this weekend

Stony Brook, N.Y. - The Stony Brook women's soccer team (1-0-1) will look to stay unbeaten in 2013 when it welcomes Fairfield and NJIT to LaValle Stadium this weekend. Stony Brook will host Fairfield on Friday at 5 p.m. as part of a #Seawolves Soccer Doubleheader. The match will be streamed for FREE on AmericaEast.TV.

Last Time Out

Following a 2-2 draw at Seton Hall to open the season, the Seawolves returned home to LaValle Stadium and exploded for six second-half goals in a 6-0 win over Fairleigh Dickinson on Sunday. Senior Larissa Nysch (Dresher, Pa.) and sophomore Emily Murrer (Aptos, Calif.) each scored two goals, while sophomore Stella Norman (Lakewood, Colo.) added a career-high three assists.

Scouting Fairfield

The Stags will be looking for their first win of the season after dropping a pair of close games to Army (1-0) and Wagner (2-1). Ashley Small scored Fairfield's goal against Wagner, with Nikki Stanton providing the assist. Kathleen Early has played both games in goal and has 10 saves so far this season. 

Scouting NJIT

The Highlanders are also looking for their first win of the new campaign after falling to Temple (2-0) and Rhode Island (3-0) last weekend. NJIT will face St. Peter's on Friday night before traveling to Long Island on Sunday. 

Regional Rank

The Seawolves entered the NSCAA Northeast Regional Poll this week at No. 10. Stony Brook is the only America East team in this week's poll.

Stellar Stella

Sophomore Stella Norman took home America East Player of the Week honors on Monday after a five-point weekend against Seton Hall and FDU. Norman scored the team's first goal of the 2013 season with a free kick against the Pirates, before registering three helpers against the Knights. Norman is the first Seawolves' women's soccer player to post three assists in a game since the program joined the America East in 2001. 

#Seawolves Soccer Doubleheader

Friday's women's soccer match is part of a #Seawolves Soccer Doubleheader. The women's team will kick off the evening against Fairfield at 5 p.m., before the men's team opens their season against Sacred Heart at 7:30 p.m.
