2013 VIRTUAL GUIDE

New Haven, Conn. - The Stony Brook women's soccer team will look to continue its stellar play when it travels to New Haven, Conn. on Friday for a 7 p.m. matchup against Yale. The Seawolves are off to their best start (3-0-1) in 13 years.

Scouting Yale

The Bulldogs have yet to play a match in 2013 and will welcome Stony Brook on Friday for their season opener. Yale posted an 8-7-2 record last year and returns two of its top three scorers in Melissa Gavin (10 points) and Muriel Battaglia (7 points). Last season, the Seawolves edged Yale, 2-1, at LaValle Stadium on a late winner by then-freshman Stella Norman.

Last Time Out

Stony Brook edged NJIT, 2-1, on Sunday to pick up its third straight victory. Senior Larissa Nysch (Dresher, Pa.) put the Seawolves ahead early, before the visitors equalized early in the second half. Stony Brook quickly regained the upper hand, however, when freshman Maxie New (Clayton, N.J.) took a feed from sophomore Tessa Devereaux (Fayetteville, N.Y.) and slotted the ball inside the right post for the deciding tally.

Marvelous Maxie

On Tuesday, New was named the America East Rookie of the Week. New is the second Seawolf to receive conference weekly honors this season as sophomore Stella Norman (Lakewood, Colo.) was named the America East Player of the Week on Aug. 26.

Regional Rank

For the second straight week, Stony Brook was ranked in the NSCAA Northeast Region Poll. The Seawolves debuted in the poll at No. 10 last week, and climbed to No. 9 in this week's poll after posting two wins last week.

Scoring Sensations

Stony Brook continues to be well represented among the America East scoring leaders. Nysch leads the conference with nine points, while Norman is second (7 points) and New is third (5 points). Nysch also currently ranks in the top 20 in the nation with four goals in four games.
