Riverside, Calif. - The Stony Brook baseball team received another strong pitching performance, but the #Seawolves fell victim to one three-run inning by UC Riverside as the Highlanders came away with a 3-2 victory Saturday at the UC Riverside Sports Complex.
UC Riverside evens the series at 1-1 and improves to 10-9 on the season. Stony Brook's five-game winning streak was snapped as the #Seawolves fall to 5-7.
Turning Point
Stony Brook scored single runs in the second and fifth innings on RBI singles from juniors Robert Chavarria (Garden Grove, Calif.) and Kevin Krause (Staten Island, N.Y.) to take a 2-0 lead.
To that point, senior Frankie Vanderka (Levittown, N.Y.) had allowed just one hit in the game, but he ran into trouble in the sixth. He allowed the leadoff hitter to reach base, but then recorded two quick outs. Francisco Tellez then followed with an RBI single to center, and Devyn Bolasky doubled him home to quickly tie the game up. After a walk, Nick Vilter gave UC Riverside the lead with an RBI single to left.
Stony Brook avoided allowing a fourth run when sophomore Jack Parenty (Wantagh, N.Y.) threw out David Andriese at the plate.
The #Seawolves had a chance to tie in the seventh with a runner on first and just one out, but Krause's line drive to left that could have scored a run was tracked down by a diving left fielder Joe Chavez.
