Seawolves, Creighton ready for weekend series

Stony Brook, N.Y. - The Seawolves (7-9) welcome the Creighton Bluejays (10-7) to Joe Nathan Field this weekend for a three-game set. The two teams will play single games on Fri, Mar. 20 at 3 p.m., Sat., Mar.21 at 1 p.m. and Sunday, Mar. 22 at noon.

Scouting the Seawolves

  • Stony Brook is 5-2 over its last seven games.
  • Junior Jack Parenty (Wantagh, N.Y.) and senior Robert Chavarria (Garden Grove, Calif.) have reached base safely in 15 of 16 games this season. Parenty has notched a hit in 14 of 16 ball games, while Chavarria has hits in 13.
  • Freshman Andruw Gazzola (Coram, N.Y.) is the reigning America East Rookie of the Week after going 6-for-8 with two walks and two rbi in the Binghamton series.He is currently in the midst of an eight-game hit streak.
  • Junior pitcher Tyler Honahan has held opposing teams to a run or less in three of his five starts this season. He is 3-1 on the season.
  • The Seawolves are coming off their top offensive outing of the season against Iona, when they pounded 15 hits and scored a season-high 11 runs. All nine starters recorded a hit by the fifth inning.

Scouting Creighton

The Bluejays enter the series winners of five of their last six. Reagan Fowler leads the team with 23 hits and a .343 batting average. He also is tied for the team-lead in doubles with five and rbi with 11. Harrison Crawford (.327) and Brett Murray (.318) round out the Bluejays hitting over .300. Creighton's starting pitching has excelled in the season's early stages. Jack Rogalla is 1-0 with a 0.82 era in two starts and Jeff Albrecht is 1-1 with a 2.00 era in four appearances, three of which have been starts.

Series History

Stony Brook won the only meeting between the schools 8-2 in 2009.
