Final Stats
Stony Brook, N.Y. - On a night where the Stony Brook men's soccer team (2-4-2) celebrated international night to honor the international players on their roster, the Hungarian connection of Alejandro Fritz (Budapest, Hungary) and Vince Erdei (Budapest, Hungary) linked up to provide the Seawolves goal in a 1-1 tie with Buffalo.
Anatol's Reaction
"I didn't think it was our best performance," said head coach Ryan Anatol. "We played well in the last couple of games, even though we didn't always get a good result, but today we weren't particularly sharp, especially in the attack."
Highlights
- For the third time in as many games, Erdei found the back of the net. He gave the Seawolves the lead in the 66th minute, flicking home Fritz's free kick.
- Erdei had an opportunity to give the Seawolves a two-goal cushion minutes later when he ran on to a pass from Barnabas Mako (Budapest, Hungary) but his breakaway attempt was saved by Buffalo's goalkeeper, Cameron Hogg.
- The Bulls tied the match with 5:35 remaining thanks to a side-footed shot inside the far post by Hunter Walsh.
- Freshman Breno Lustosa (Kearney, N.J.) had the best chance to win the match for either side in the overtimes, ripping a left-footed volley just wide of the near post in the first overtime stanza.
Notes
- Fritz took over the conference lead with his fourth assist of the season. He moved into a tie-for-6th place on the school's all-time assist list.
- Stony Brook held a slight edge over the Bulls in shots, 14-13, while shots on goal were even at six apiece.
- Erdei led Stony Brook with five shots and three shots on goal. Freshman Serge Gamwanya (Kinshasa, Congo) added three shots and two shots on goal.
- Senior Jason Orban (Manorville, N.Y.) finished the night with five saves in goal for the Seawolves.
- The Seawolves have scored the first goal in five of eight matches this season. They have only allowed the first goal twice, with the other match ending in a 0-0 tie.
