Box Score BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, N.Y. -- The Stony Brook men's soccer team opened its 2019 campaign with a 1-0 loss to St. Francis Brooklyn on Friday night at Brooklyn Bridge Park.Â

"Tough result based off the the run of play. We carried the majority of the game but St. Francis Brooklyn defended really deep and were well organized and made it difficult for us. We need to get sharper in the final third to create better opportunities."
Highlights
- The Seawolves saw their first two scoring chances in the 15th minute, when they got shots on goal from senior Gabriel Fernandes (North Babylon, N.Y.) and sophomore Jack Valderrabano (New York, N.Y.). Terriers keeper Callum James was able to stop both attempts.
- Stony Brook nearly opened the scoring in the 37th minute, when senior Gustavo Fernandes (North Babylon, N.Y.) missed just high with a header attempt.
- St. Francis Brooklyn had its best first half scoring threat in the final minute of the half but Ivan Tapuskovic missed high.
- The Terriers scored the only goal of the match, a long strike by El Mahdi Youssoufi in the 69th minute.
- Stony Brook got two more shots off in the final minutes of the contest but were unable to equalize.

- Four players saw their first action as Seawolves in today's contest: junior midfielder Kori Cupid (Chaguanas, Trinidad), freshman goalkeeper Edmond Kaiser (Karlsruhe, Germany), freshman midfielder Danny Jara (Queens, N.Y.), and freshman defender Sebastian Rojek (Wayne, N.J.).
- Both sides mustered seven shots in the contest.
- The Seawolves took four corner kicks to St. Francis Brooklyn's three.
