STONY BROOK, N.Y. — The Seawolves in the pros are reporting for duty.
Three Stony Brook baseball alums were named to Major League Baseball 60-man summer camp player pools, the teams announced.
Nick Tropeano and Daniel Zamora will report to New York with the Yankees and Mets, respectively, while Travis Jankowski will report to the Cincinnati Reds when teams assemble on Wednesday.
"There's only one thing that could make me more excited for the upcoming 60-game MLB season, and that's our former Seawolves players being named to their respective clubs' 60 man rosters," Seawolves head coach
Matt Senk said. "From myself and all of Seawolves Nation, I'd like to wish best of luck to Travis, Nick and Danny throughout the season."
Zamora made 17 appearances out of the bullpen in The Show last season, striking out eight over 8 2/3 innings. He had a promising spring training leading up to Year 3 with the Mets, recording a 1.80 ERA with eight strikeouts before the Grapefruit League was halted in March.
Jankowski had four spring-training hits, two of which were doubles, with his new club after spending five years with the Padres. San Diego, which originally drafted Jankowski with the 44th overall pick in 2012, traded him last offseason for international bonus slot money. The deal brought Jankowski closer to his Lancaster, Pa., hometown.
Tropeano was signed as a free agent in February by the Yankees. He made five appearances during spring training, recording a 5.19 ERA in 8 2/3 innings.
Wednesday's training report date will begin the tune-up for a 60-game season slated to begin July 23 or 24. Zamora's Mets and Tropeano's Yankees will battle four times, according to the reported format, while Jankowski will return to his home state of Pennsylvania for 10 games with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
