Incoming Baseball Freshman Idris Carter Named Blue Chip Summer League Rookie of Week

HOLBROOK, N.Y. — Incoming Stony Brook freshman Idris Carter has taken home a top weekly summer-league baseball honor.

Carter, an outfielder from Roosevelt High School, was named Rookie of the Week in the Blue Chip Collegiate Baseball League. He batted .444 with two homers, four RBIs, four runs scored, three walks and two stolen bases in four games for the week.

Carter and fellow incoming freshman Jack Carr both are playing this summer with the Blue Chip league's Long Island Titans-White team.

Overall, Carter is batting .316 (6-for-19) with four homers and a .552 on-base percentage through 10 summer-league games (nine starts).

"I feel I've been having a few good at-bats and working myself into good counts," Carter said. "I was struggling early with getting my timing back and whatnot. But that was nothing a little bit of extra work in the cage couldn't fix, which I did. As a result, I had a pretty good weekend and look to improve every time I step on the field as the season progresses."

As for his arrival at Stony Brook, Carter added: "I'm looking forward to just being able to play ball with a great group of guys and have a chance to win another American East championship."
