NEW YORK — Both
Moses Bakabulindi and
Rondell Payne made set pieces count for the Stony Brook Men's Soccer program, giving the Seawolves the two goals they would need to leave a rainy Columbia campus with a victory on Tuesday night.
It would be the Seawolves' second consecutive 2-1 victory after defeating Long Island rivals Hofstra by the same scoreline on Saturday at LaValle Stadium.
Bakabulindi started the scoring in the 25th minute, bending his corner kick straight through traffic and into the net to give the Seawolves the early advantage.
The second goal also came off a corner kick, as
Trausti Birgisson sent a ball from the opposite corner flag to the far post that was tapped home by
Rondell Payne that gave Stony Brook what it would need to secure all three points.
The Seawolves were on the offensive attack all night, generating 14 corner kicks on the night. They held a 14-2 advantage in that department, while allowing Columbia to put just three of its 14 shots on
Curtis Copenhaver's net.
