Seawolves Fall in Doubleheader Against Northeastern

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Stony Brook baseball team suffered a pair of defeats to Northeastern on Friday, falling 6-4 in the first game to the Huskies and 11-0 in the second game of the doubleheader. 
 
GAME 1: STONY BROOK 4, NORTHEASTERN 6
  • The Seawolves got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with two runs in the top of the first inning. The rally began with back-to-back hits from Evan Fox and Cam Santerre, followed by a sac-fly from Erik Paulsen to give the Seawolves the early lead. Matt Brown-Eiring then brought home Santerre, securing the 2-0 advantage. 
  • Northeastern tied the game in their first turn at the plate in the first inning by scoring two runs.
  • Both teams went 1-2-3 in the second inning.
  • The Huskies took the 3-2 lead in the third inning after a sac-fly gave themselves the lead.
  • Both teams left a runner on base in the fourth inning. 
  • Stony Brook tied the game in the fifth inning after Evan Fox mashed his fourth home run of the season. However, Northeastern re-took the lead following an RBI-knock from Sirota, bringing the score to 4-3. 
  • In his final inning of work, Colin Rhein retired the Huskies in order to complete the sixth inning. The right-hander allowed four runs and struck out four batters over 6.0 innings of work. 
  • The Seawolves made the most of an error by Northeastern to tie the game at 4-4 in the seventh. 
  • Northeastern answered right back with two different RBI-hits to go-ahead 6-4 in the bottom of the seventh.
  • The Seawolves got two runners on base in the eighth and held Northeastern scoreless in the eighth, but the Huskies held on to the lead to secure the 6-4 victory.
STATS AND NOTES (GAME 1)
  • Stony Brook's power output was led by Fox, who picked up two extra base hits in the ballgame. He slammed his fourth home run of the season and it marked his 12th multi-hit game of the season after he went 2-for-5. He also scored two runs in the defeat.
  • Rhein made his fourth start of the season, allowing four runs and struck out four batters over 6.0 innings of work. He has gone at least 6.0 innings in his last five appearances dating back to April 20th. 
  • E. Paulsen extended his on-base streak to 22 games after drawing a walk. It is the longest streak on the team this season. 
  • Pattermann made his 10th appearance out of the bullpen this season. He allowed two runs and struck out two batters over 2.0 innings. He moves to 1-2 on the year. 
  • B. Paulsen tallied his 13th multi-hit game of the year. The senior went 2-for-3 with a walk this afternoon. 
  • Brown-Eiring extended his hitting-streak to six games, the longest current streak on the team. 
  • Santerre stole two bases in Friday's game. It was the third time this season that he stole at-least two bags in a game.
  • The Seawolves hit .563 (9-16) in advancement opportunities this afternoon. 
  • Stony Brook pitchers faced 35 Northeastern hitters in the game, allowing nine ground balls and eight fly balls while striking out six.
  • Stony Brook's highest scoring inning was the first, when it pushed two runs across. 
GAME 2: STONY BROOK 9, NORTHEASTERN 0 
  • After the Seawolves went 1-2-3 in the opening frame, the Huskies opened the scoring by tallying five runs in the first inning to take a 5-0 lead.
  • Northeastern came back with another five runs in the second inning following a 1-2-3 inning by Stony Brook to take a 10-0 advantage. 
  • Evan Goforth got the start for Stony Brook at third base. The junior got the first hit of the game for the Seawolves in the third inning.
  • After JT Raab exited the game in the middle of the second inning, Quinlan Montgomery finished the inning and stranded a runner on second base in the third inning. 
  • The Seawolves got two runners on board in the fourth after a single from Santerre and Brown-Eiring. However, the Huskies ended the inning with a strikeout to keep Stony Brook off the board.
  • Jerek Hobb would finish off the final 3.0 innings without allowing a run and just one hit. However, the Huskies would hold on to their lead and secure the 11-0 victory. 
STATS AND NOTES (GAME 2)
  • Raab made his 11th start of the year, which tied the team-high with Nicholas Rizzo and Eddie Smink. The right-hander allowed nine runs (eight earned) and struck out four batters over his 1.2 innings of work. 
  • Brown-Eiring extended his hitting-streak to seven games in the defeat. He went 1-for-3 at the plate.
  • Montgomery made his 14th appearance of the season this afternoon. The right hander allowed two runs and struck out four over 3.1 innings. 
  • Hobb was a bright spot out of the pen by completing the final 3.0 innings without allowing a run. 
  • E. Paulsen extended his on-base streak to 23 games. 
  • Stony Brook moves to 8-18 all-time against Northeastern after the doubleheader defeat.
    The Seawolves are now 8-15 on the road this season.

The Seawolves return to the diamond tomorrow for their final regular season game of the year. First pitch against the Huskies is slated for 1:00 p.m. and can be streamed live on FloBaseball.
