STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Stony Brook right-handed pitcher Eddie Smink has been named one of the top 150 starting pitchers in college baseball ahead of the 2025 season, as announced by D1Baseball this afternoon.

The prestigious watch list highlights the top Division I starting pitchers nationwide and will be updated throughout the season. Smink, a sophomore, is one of seven players from the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) to earn a spot on the list and ranks as the third-highest-rated player among them.

A standout on the mound, Smink enters the 2025 campaign as the Perfect Game CAA Preseason Pitcher of the Year and a Preseason All-CAA selection. Over two seasons with the Seawolves, he has posted a 4.38 ERA across 19 appearances and 17 starts, compiling a 6-7 record with 90 strikeouts over 84.1 innings.

In 2024, Smink emerged as a key figure in the Stony Brook rotation, leading the team in wins (5), ERA (3.11), games started (11), strikeouts (56), and opposing batting average (.215). His dominance extended to the conference level, finishing among the top three in the CAA in ERA, opponent batting average, hits allowed (43), runs allowed (23), and home runs allowed (2).

One of Smink's standout performances came early in the season when he secured his first victory by tossing 5.0 innings, allowing one run, and striking out seven to hand No. 3 LSU its first loss of the season. He earned CAA Pitcher of the Week honors on April 8 after throwing 6.0 scoreless innings with just one hit, one walk, and three strikeouts in a win over Elon. Smink closed the year on a high note, winning his final three starts by pitching six innings in each outing and surrendering just two total runs over 18.0 innings, earning All-CAA Honorable Mention recognition.

Stony Brook opens the 2025 season this weekend with a three-game series at Bethune-Cookman. First pitch for the series opener is set for 7:00 p.m. Friday at Jackie Robinson Ballpark in Daytona Beach, Fla.
